TM62100 adds MIDI and additional features to SK15, SK20, SK30 and SK50D synthesizers. It is a direct replacement for the Yamaha YM62100 / YM621 key assigner and can also be used to replace defective original ICs – even when midi is not required. The original behaviour is fully maintained.

TM62100 might also work in organs such as Yamaha D85, please read these notes.

Features:

  • MIDI input and output on several channels with optional soft-through
  • Independent midi control of upper keyboard, lower keyboard and pedal sections
  • Full tonal range in split mode
  • Midi filter cutoff and resonance control
  • Additional filter LFO
  • Midi sustain control
  • Midi portamento control
  • Midi aftertouch
  • Note priority for the pedal/BASS section: Lowest/Last/Highest note
  • Built in configuration menu can set midi channels and other parameters.
  • Non-destructive installation can be reverted to original

Midi note control

Depending on the synthesizer, the various sound generators can be controlled independently via midi. Typically these are arranged into the same “synth-groups” that exist in the original synthesizers. Each group has its own midi channel configurable using the built in config menu.

  • SK15: All sounds on Group 2 *
  • SK20: No split mode: Group 1 plays organ, poly-synth and strings. In split mode: Group 1 plays Organ (all 61 notes), Group 2 plays String and Polysynth (All 61 notes)
  • SK30: Same as SK20, but SOLO-Synth plays on channel 2 in NORMAL mode and channel 3 in BASS mode.
  • SK50D: Group 1 plays the lower keyboard, Group 2 plays the upper keyboard. BASS Plays on Group 3. Depending on settings, SOLO SYNTH plays on Group 2 (NORMAL) or Group 3 (BASS)

* In case of the SK15, it might be possible to re-route the organ section to Group 1 by modifying the circuit. This has not been tested yet.

Additional midi control

If applicable, the following parameters can be controlled additionally:

  • Poly-synth filter cutoff (All SK-Synths), with additional LFO
  • Poly-synth filter resonance (All SK-Synths) *
  • Sustain ON/OFF (SK20, SK30, SK50)
  • Solo synth filter cutoff (SK30, SK50) *
  • Solo synth Aftertouch (SK30, SK50)
  • Solo-synth Portamento ON/OFF (SK30, SK50)

* For the synths with built in SOLO section, it is possible to control Poly-Synth resonance OR Solo-Synth cutoff, but not both. This is a choice you need to make during installation.

Additional Filter LFO
An additional filter LFO is accessible via midi CC controls.

  • Frequency range: 0.1 Hz – 1000 Hz
  • Free running or midi sync with adjustable divider
  • Triangle, Saw, Inverted Saw, Square and Random waveforms

Audio frequency modulation is possible and can create novel sounds usually not possible with the SK-series synths. Warning: At high frequencies, the LFO signal may be audible. This is due to the filter IC suffering from some amount of CV bleed-through.

Midi output

TM62100 features midi output on several midi channels. The various synth-groups (see MIDI input) also apply here. This means the upper, lower and pedal keyboards can send on different midi channels. In split mode the two parts send on different midi channels as well. The channel numbers can be set in the config menu, as well as individual output channels turned off.

MIDI Soft-through
Optionally MIDI soft through can be activated using the config menu. Incoming midi messages will be merged with the internal midi data and forwarded to the MIDI output.

Configuration Menu

The built in configuration menu can be used to set parameters such as midi channels or the pedal note priority. It can be accessed turning the synth on while playing an D-minor chord.
The user manual explains this menu in detail.

Installation

Installation is relatively simple, but requires soldering and drilling holes for the midi sockets. We have a list of synth techs who can help with the installation.
TM62100 replaces the original YM62100 IC. The original IC needs to be desoldered and a socket put in place. TM62100 is then put in the socket. Holes for the midi sockets need to be drilled and the sockets installed. A stencil for drilling is part of the kit. In order to get additional midi control (e.g. Filter), a few wires need to be soldered to the synthesizer’s PCBs.

How much is my shipping?

Shipping is automatically calculated before you submit your payment information. Simply add items to your cart and proceed to the checkout page, where you'll be offered shipping options and their prices. In the UK it's normally around £4 for order values under £150, and free above that. Shipping to mainland EU is typically between £7 and £20, depending on the shipping method and the size and weight of the order.

Do you ship to my country?

Almost certainly - the site will give you an estimate of shipping costs if you add an item to the cart and then enter your country and postcode. If you have specific requirements (such as if you prefer UPS over FedEx, for example) then let us know in advance and we'll try to work something out for you.

Shipping methods

We use a combination of Parcelforce, DPD, Royal Mail and UPS for the UK, and for international orders it's either Royal Mail, UPS, DHL or FedEx depending on where you are in the world. If you have a particular preference then try to let us know BEFORE you order so we can look into it for you. Please note that there may occasionally be additional shipping charges if you live in a remote area, depending on what surcharges are applied by the shipper. We'll get in touch to discuss this with you in such cases.

Dispatch times

For UK orders, we normally dispatch the same working day if we get the order before 15:00. If you have a really urgent situation then of course drop us an email before ordering and we'll always do our absolute best to accommodate you.

For international orders, we normally dispatch the same day if we get the order before 13:00 but again, occasionally it might be the next day before we can send it out, and sometimes FedEx or UPS may come a little earlier than scheduled which would also push an order into the next day.

Shipping times

Since April 2020 the couriers we use have suspended guarantees for shipping times, so even though we're paying them for priority services - 24-48 hours for most of the world - in practice it's often an extra day on top and sometimes it can be longer.

There is absolutely nothing we can do about this unfortunately. If you are outside the UK and it's a life-or-death situation where you absolutely MUST have that passive mult for the next day then... it may be better to find a local supplier.

Saturday shipping

If you're in the UK and you order before 15:30 on a Friday then we can send something for a Saturday delivery (NB: this applies to UK mainland addresses only). The success rate with DPD is about 95% so it's worth a punt most of the time. Please note that if you select Saturday shipping on an order placed earlier in the week, we'll wait until Friday to ship it.

Pre-orders

If a product is listed as a pre-order, it means we've ordered it from the supplier but it's not physically in stock yet. The product listing will include an estimated shipping date based on the best information we have from the supplier, but do bear in mind this is subject to change and is not a guaranteed date.

If you place an order containing a mixture of in-stock and pre-order items, we'll normally hold off on shipping anything until the pre-order item(s) have arrived, rather than splitting it into multiple shipments. If you need the in-stock items sooner, we'd recommend placing separate orders. As always, please get in touch if you have questions.
