The longest January ever is now behind us, and while many things in the world feel pretty uncertain right now, one thing you can rely on is a steady supply of innovative music-making gear. Jason was over at NAMM to take the temperature of the music tech industry as we head into 2025, and things definitely feel like they’re on the up again after a couple of slightly shaky years (trade wars, tariffs and natural disasters notwithstanding!)

One of the big hits of the show was the Melbourne Instruments Roto-Control MIDI controller, and our first batch flew out the door faster than you could say ‘motorised knob’. More of them are winging their way to us as we type, but we’d recommend pre-ordering to reserve one as stocks will be fairly limited.

And talking of pre-orders, you can now get yours in for the latest Tiptop Audio Buchla modules, the 292t quad LPG (the new vactrol-free version) and the 242t programmable pulser, which should both be landing here next week.

In other news, our first Synth Club was a resounding success and the February edition filled up in record time, so join our Discord community to get the early heads-up on the next one. We’re restarting our main in-store events programme this month too, with a visit from Finlay Shakespeare of Future Sound Systems on Wednesday 26 February [link to Eventbrite to come].  He’s playing live at Attack Release the same night, so why not join us and make a night of it?

Until next time,

Jason, Aleks, Kyle, Luke, Molly, Rob & Tom

A couple of other recent cult favourite Eurorack modules are also back after selling out very quickly: the OAM Time Machine multi-tap delay and the Beanie Bunnie Moo Moo dual oscillator.

New on our YouTube channel

Our Luke is a big fan of the new Teenage Engineering OP-XY, and now that it’s out in the wild, he’s made a video exploring three of his favourite features: the punch-in FX, the send/return loop and the Brain. Check it out for some inspiration, and pre-order a unit from the next batch arriving this month.

And finally…

Our pal Stephen McLeod of All My Friends Are Synths has made a cracking YouTube documentary about the thriving synth scene in Glasgow. He showcases the Attack Release night which has become a real hub for musicians and fans, and speaks to key local figures (including a certain Jason from a certain neighbourhood synth retailer…)
