Greetings from Signal Sounds HQ

There’s still not much sign of a proper summer here in Glasgow, but at least new toys are arriving to brighten up our days! This week we’ve got some marvellous mics, a super sampler, a bangin’ Buchla and a pretty polysynth, not to mention a dynamite DAW - read on to find out more.

Everyone loves a good firmware update and it’s a big week for them: Oberheim have released OS v2.0 for the mighty OB-X8, which brings a binaural mode, simultaneously selectable waveshapes for each oscillator, a new 4-pole low-pass filter type, poly chaining and much more. If you’re an OB-X8 user, you can download it here, and if the new features are tempting you (or you fancy putting that poly chaining feature to the test!) we have the keyboard and desktop versions in stock.

Meanwhile, Polyend have released 2.0 firmware for their Tracker Mini, which offers new synth engines, more MIDI tracks, USB mass storage and more. You can grab that here, and if you’re not yet a Tracker Mini owner you can bag one here.

Finally, a wee reminder that if you’re in or around Glasgow on Thursday 18th, come along to Noise Box at Bloc from 9pm to see the whole Signal Sounds team playing live. Which reminds me, I really need to dust off that gear and get practising…

Until next time,

Jason, Aleks, Kyle, Luke, Molly, Rob & Tom

New arrivals

Oaka Instruments' stunning microphones are handmade in Dorset and are specially designed to capture subtle, delicate sounds, making them perfect for field recording and sound design. We sold out of the Tellus contact mics in record time, but if you’re quick we still have some of the Verdi and MINI Verdi condenser mics on the site.

We’ve had the Modern edition and the 50th Anniversary edition, now the Retro edition of Buchla’s Music Easel is finally here. An authentic recreation of the classic West Coast synth with modern production values, it comes in an aluminium briefcase and features a new power and MIDI control cluster for easy integration with the rest of your studio.

The latest in 1010 Music’s compact and wallet-friendly Nanobox line is here. Tangerine is a compact streaming sampler that lets you trigger one-shots, play time-synced samples or record live looping, with up to 24 stereo polyphonic notes available, with a handy touch screen. Tasty!

Delia is here! The first batch of Melbourne Instruments’ motorised-knob-label polysynths have landed, the pre-orders have gone out and the remaining few are up on the site now. A great-sounding modern poly with a brilliant interface and distinctive styling - what’s not to like?

The award-winning, feature-packed DAW is available with some major savings until 12th August. If you’ve ever wanted to dip your toe into the Bitwig waters, or upgrade your existing package to the full version, now’s a great time. Check out all the options here.

Latest restocks

Along with the Nanobox Tangerine mentioned above, 1010 Music sent us plenty of Bitboxes, Blueboxes, Blackboxes and Nanoboxes, so your every 'box' need should now be covered!

We’ve also had a nice big box of analogue goodies from our Belgian pals at Joranalogue, with virtually the entire range now back in stock, plus a chunky restock from Befaco, including their awesome 7U cases.

Also just a heads-up that we have a big shipment from Intellijel on the way (including the amazing new Atlantix) which should land any day now, so keep an eye on the site if you’re looking for something that’s been out of stock for a while.

And finally…

Our pal Ty Lumnus, head honcho of Glasgow modular party Attack Release and all-round good guy, has a new album out tomorrow! Phase Music is an homage to the techniques of minimalist legend Steve Reich and features eight tracks of hypnotic modular synth-based ambient goodness. Check it out on Bandcamp - there’s also a launch event on the Club Sounds Live stream on Mixcloud tomorrow (Friday 5th July) - tune in from 9pm.
