The sun's out in Scotland and there’s loads going at Signal Sounds towers this week! After a fabulous workshop with Finlay from Future Sound Systems at the end of February (watch the recording if you missed it!), we’re delighted to be hosting Joran from Joranalogue in the store on Wednesday 26th March.

He’ll be doing a masterclass on Collide 4, the ‘quadrature spectral computer’ he designed with famed hairy jumper-wearer and test equipment-botherer Hainbach. There are still a few places left, so grab your free ticket on Eventbrite. And speaking of Hainbach, look out for his video on the awesome new Herbs & Stones Mousse desktop modular groovebox, which should be dropping any day now!

Stay tuned for news of not one but two special in-store events next month on top of our regular monthly Synth Club, which has been going from strength to strength - April’s event filled up in about eight minutes when we announced it yesterday.

In other news, Bitwig are running some special discounts this month for anyone upgrading to the full Studio version from an existing Bitwig package. And with the season finale of Severance airing tomorrow, we put our own synth-tastic spin on the iconic theme tune. Check it out on Instagram if you haven’t seen it yet. Praise Gear!

Until next time,

Jason, Aleks, Kyle, Luke, Molly, Rob & Tom

Latest restocks

We’ve been drowning in boxes this week as we’ve been topping up the shelves with recent hits and old favourites from some of your favourite Eurorack brands, including ALM, Grayscale, Nano Modules (at some new lower prices!), Xaoc Devices, Joranalogue, Tubbutec and 4ms to name just a few. We’ve also had a big drop of the Torso Electronics S-4 at long last, so if you’ve had your eye on the magical Danish ambient sampling machine, you know what to do!

New on our YouTube channel

We let The Unperson do a trolley dash through our Maneco Labs shelves recently, Supermarket Sweep style, and he grabbed a bunch of modules to explore on our channel. Last month he showcased the 16 Second Delay, and this time round it’s the Grone drone voice - a combo of digital VCO, MS20-style filter and a clone of Mutable Instruments Clouds granular processor. It’s everything you need to make rich and atmospheric drones, as Ally demonstrates beautifully.

And finally...

Some more book and music recommendations from the team! We’ve been loving In the Dust of This Planet by Eugene Thacker. It’s like a nihilist version of Mark Fisher’s Ghosts of My Life, replacing Tricky and Burial references with zombie movies, HP Lovecraft and black metal. Thacker puts forward that the world we think we know is only a fraction of reality - ‘horror’ isn’t just a genre, it’s our inability to comprehend the full extent of what lies beyond our perception. Trust us, it’s not as heavy as that sounds!

Juxtaposing the potential for bleakness, somewhat at least, we’ve been loving Cindy Lee’s 2024 opus Diamond Jubilee, which was initially released only on YouTube. It’s pop music, but weird. Imagine the soundtrack to a homemade David Lynch movie and you’re getting in the ballpark. Take a break from the techno and let the strangeness flow!
