Roundup 12 September 2024 | Trade-ins, new Instruo, TEO-5, autumn events and more
We’ve got loads of exciting stuff to tell you about this week, so let’s get straight into it! First up, we’re now offering a service that we get asked about all the time: trade-ins. Yep, if you have unused or unwanted gear lying around, you can turn it into cash or store credit to buy lovely new gear.
Head to the site to find out more about the process and to get the ball rolling - just fill out a simple form with some details and we’ll get back to you with a quote. And talking of not-quite-brand-new stock, a heads-up that we’ve added a ton of stuff to our B-stock section recently too, so check that out if you’re looking for a bargain.
Next, events: we’re back in full swing for the autumn and there’s loads going on. As mentioned last time, we’re heading to London next weekend for a two-day pop-up at Next Door Records Two in Stoke Newington. Grab a free ticket if you haven’t already, and come and chat with us about all things synths!
Back in Glasgow, on Thursday 26th September, we’re hosting our next in-store event with AJH Synth, who are bringing along the awesome RadioPhonic System they built for none other than soundtrack overlord Hans Zimmer. As usual, we’ll have free beer and pizza too but places are limited, so snap up a free ticket while you can!
That’s not all - we’ll also be at Roma Modulare in Italy on 27-28 September and at Synthfest in Sheffield on 5 October with our friends at Melbourne Instruments, Expert Sleepers and Instruo, before we descend on Bristol mob-handed for Machina Bristronica on 12-13 October. We’ll tell you more about that very soon!
As always, plenty of cool new gear has arrived and we’ve got new videos and blog posts for you to check out, so read on for the full story.
Until next time,
Jason, Aleks, Kyle, Luke, Molly, Rob & Tom
Latest arrivals
Instruo today unveiled Ceis [2], a new and improved version of their voltage-controlled ADSR envelope module. It boasts a redesigned logic extraction circuit for the segment gates, an envelope re-trigger input, and a throughput so you can use it as a voltage-controlled slew limiter. Shipping now!
First unveiled at Superbooth back in May, our first batch of the Oberheim TEO-5 has finally arrived at Signal Sounds and it was well worth the wait. If you’ve ever wanted the classic Oberheim analogue sound but couldn’t quite stretch to the flagship OB-X8, this compact marvel is the answer to your prayers.
Another new brand for the store: we’re delighted to be the exclusive UK dealer for Nekyia Circuits, a range of powerful and affordable analogue modules from Greece. The line-up includes Serge and Buchla-inspired filters and LPGs as well as powerful modulation sources and utilities. Check out Tom’s videos to hear them in action.
Behold the new mixer module from Threetom Modular! What sets Mixing Flask apart from other three-channel utility mixers is the soft-clipping limiting circuit on the mix-bus (inspired by their ace Doppio module), a healthy 6dB of extra gain, and the eye-catching chemical lab-inspired front panel with lights galore. See for yourself!
As the old saying goes, ADAT-equipped 8-in/8-out Eurorack audio interface expanders are like buses - you wait years for one and then two come along at once! Hot on the heels of the Expert Sleepers ES-10 is the OPTX v2 from BoredBrain, a completely redesigned version of their 10HP marvel. Up for pre-order now and shipping in October.
Dope Delia demo
The musical genius that is The Unperson has returned to our YouTube channel with a stunning demo of the Melbourne Instruments Delia. Check it out to hear just what this red-and-black motor-knobbed monster is capable of! If you want even more of a Delia fix, Matt Johnson Jamiroquai’s demo dropped this week too. Delia-tastic!
Leibniz 101
We had a big restock from our friends at Xaoc Devices recently, so we thought it was time to shed some light on their Leibniz binary subsystem - a range of modules that work with 8-bit digital versions of your modular signals to do all sorts of fun things, from wavetable oscillators to insane waveshapers to drum trigger sequencers. Tom’s done an overview video and accompanying deep-dive blog - we promise it’s not as confusing as you think!
And finally…
In case you missed it, Mylar Melodies’ latest episode of Why We Bleep with Matthew from ALM/Busy Circuits is a brilliant listen. Matthew is the brains behind Pamela’s New/Pro Workout, among many other landmark modules, and in the chat he goes deep on the origin story of one of the most consistently ace brands in Eurorack. Watch the video version or check it out wherever you get your podcasts!
